With great appreciation to researchers, IACUC members, veterinarians, EH&S and IACUC specialists, we announce that AAALAC has finalized their review of UCSF’s animal care and use program and granted Continued Full Accreditation.

This is what they said in informing us of our continued accreditation:

The Council commends you and the staff for providing and maintaining a high quality program of laboratory animal care and use. Especially noteworthy were the senior institutional administration for their strong support of the animal program, evidenced in part by continuous improvement and provision of resources to enhance animal programs and purchase of some new taller rat caging; the knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and engaged animal care personnel, supervisors, managers, and facility maintenance personnel; the well maintained and clean facilities; the appearance of healthy, well cared for animals; the strong, collaborative relationship among the Laboratory Animal Resource Center staff and veterinarians; the excellent knowledge of facilities and management by the entire veterinary professional team, including hands-on involvement and oversight of day-to-day activities involving animal care and use; the detailed oversight of animal health, and the very complete documentation of animal treatments and care throughout the laboratories visited; the engaged Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) members, including the nonaffiliated and nonscientific members, who were confident in expressing opinions during our meeting and protocol reviews, and the diligent and knowledgeable members of the IACUC compliance office; the excellent and complete IACUC meeting minutes; the positive rapport among the compliance team members with research groups; the comprehensive Occupational, Health and Safety program; the very good risk signage in facilities and laboratories; and the very well written and accurate Program Description. The Council is pleased to inform you that the program conforms with AAALAC International standards as set forth by the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, NRC 2011.
