Training Requirements for New Animal Users

To access trainings, go to the UC Learning Center (http://training.ucsf.edu/) and log in using your UCSF MyAccess ID.


To find a course, type “IACUC” or the course titles listed below in the search box to locate tutorials and hands-on training enrollment.

Step 1: Online Requirements:

Step 2: Hands-On Species-Specific Training:

Mouse or rat users with less than one year of hands-on experience:

  • Mouse Basic Handling (class includes: A virtual Session 1 & In-Person Session 2)
  • Rat Basic Handling (class includes: A virtual Session 1 & In-Person Session 2)
  • NOTE: It is NOT NECESSARY to register for euthanasia training in addition to basic handling training.

Mouse or rat users with greater than one year of hands-on experience:

Other Species: Refer to the IACUC training webpage for species-specific requirements or contact the IACUC office directly at [email protected] .

Step 3: Your name must be added to your PI’s active IACUC protocol:

This must be done by the PI or Alternate Responsible of the protocol by generating a modification request in RIO.
