Training Requirements for New Animal Users

To access trainings, go to the UC Learning Center (http://training.ucsf.edu/) and log in using your UCSF MyAccess ID.

To find a course, type “IACUC” or the course titles listed below in the search box to locate tutorials and hands-on training enrollment.

Step 1: Online Requirements:

• BRER I (Required for all personnel listed on an IACUC protocol, regardless of role), BRER II, (Required if working with anesthetic agents and/or performing surgery and/or post-surgical care), and BRER III (Required for all personnel listed on an IACUC protocol that includes rodent survival surgery, regardless of role). Test-outs for BRER I Test-out and BRER II Test-out are available.
• Cage Density Policy Training (Required if assisting with breeding and/or colony management)
• MHS Questionnaire located at https://medicalhealthscreeningforanimalallergies.ucsfmedicalcenter.org/ (Login using your MyAccess [SFXXXXXX] login or your work VPN login)

Step 2: Hands-On Species-Specific Training:

Mouse or rat users with less than one year of hands-on experience:

• Mouse Basic Handling (class includes: A virtual Session 1 & In-Person Session 2)
• Rat Basic Handling (class includes: A virtual Session 1 & In-Person Session 2)
• NOTE: It is NOT NECESSARY to register for euthanasia training in addition to basic handling training.

Mouse or rat users with greater than one year of hands-on experience:

• Mouse Euthanasia Training
• Rat Euthanasia Training

Step 3: Your name must be added to your PI’s active IACUC protocol:

This must be done by the PI or Alternate Responsible of the protocol by generating a modification request in RIO.
